Since April 2022, fertility treatment in Japan, including IVF, has been covered by public health insurance, with patients usually paying 30% of the cost at the clinic. To be covered, the woman must be under 43 when treatment starts. Women under 40 can have up to six covered treatments, and women aged 40 to 42 can have up to three.
Treatment outside those limits, and many add-on procedures, are paid privately, and some local governments offer extra support towards the cost. If you are not a Japanese resident, check with each clinic whether you can be treated and how fees will be charged.
When you compare the clinics below, ask which of their treatments are covered by insurance, how many covered cycles you would have left, and their live birth rates for patients your age.
